Ya'll remember that nasty stuff Purple Passion? That grape juicy, sweet crap than came in two liter bottles spiked with what? Was that Everclear? Hoo-wee. Crazy bad.
Well I've traded in the Purple Passion for finer wines and tequila-n-tonics (la-tee-da), and my purple passions now are these two plants blooming now.
Thank goodness for the Mexican oregano and purple coneflowers. They are holding it all together right now, fighting against the drought with all of their might.
The coneflowers aren't as flush as they are in wet years, but still pop with color. And while some of the blooms are fading fading away, I have other plants that are just sending up buds. So, hopefully, we'll get the benefit of these purple passions for a few weeks more...

Wow, it looks GREAT! And that's the bird bath you made yourself, too, right? Really cool. Laura
Hi! I work in the garden department at Martha Stewart's Living Magazine. I really like your blog and would love to know more about you. I can't seem find a profile on your blog.
Thanks,
Andrea
Hi Andrea! Wow, how cool is that? I'm not sure why I'm so anonymous...I guess I ought to remedy that. Apologies if this sounds so much like a personal ad...
I'm a 30-something guy living here in Austin, Texas with a ridiculous obsession with prairies, hawkmoths and Brasilian culture and drumming. I'm a native South Carolinian and can eat boiled peanuts with the best of 'em, but I've also been around the block a bit. I've got a background in ecology, behavior and evolution, but don't really do anything too related for a living.
I love gardening for both the design/living aspect but also the idea of creating a community for native plants, critters and people.
I'm a huge fan of modern landscapes and architecture, but also find them lacking in terms of diversity and support of wildlife.
Hmmm. Maybe I do need a profile page...and possibly something with better contact info...
Hi Lee!
Thanks for getting back to me.
I hope you don't mind answering a few more questions for me???
Are the majority of the photos on your blog your own garden in Austin?
Are you a landscape designer? or where did you get your gardening experience from?
Thanks,
Andrea
Howdy Andrea...Indeed, the majority of the photos are from our garden in Austin, though I do occasionally post photos or images from other places. I usually try to label those "the outside world." I'm not a landscape designer by profession, but all of the garden has been designed by my partner and I. Also, landscape design is my secret second dream career, just waiting in the wings for my mid-life crisis. i love it. i'd be more than happy to continue chatting with you. feel free to email me at grackle512 (a) gmail.com!
Thanks for your email Lee! You just may be the garden blogger I'm looking for! I'll continue our correspondence from my work email, I'll email you shortly...Best,
Andrea
