On the Fence (Lizard)

About 4 weeks ago, we were cleaning out some brush on the back 40 (a.k.a. the unsightly brush pile that occasionally builds to Aggie Bonfire size at the end of our driveway), and we uncovered this handsome Texas spiny lizard (Sceloporus olivaceus).

It was cool outside, so he was chilled out. Easy to pick up and he stuck around a bit for a photo. I love having a garden full o' reptiles.

Love this photo (and the Aggie bonfire reference.) I haven't found any lizards around here lately, but I've been lazy about weeding, etc, so maybe I've simply overlooked them.

Hi Lee.
Cool spiny chap! Never had anything other than anoles here at the Patch, I now have them indoors and out!

I totally relate to the bonfire reference, the brush pile at the back of my garden is also completely out of control...there is snow on its upper peak! I must rent out a shredder soon!

Very cool! We're all gecko's here, I wonder what he eats?

cute lizard- but he's S. olivaceous, not undulatus. the white stripes down his sides are a dead giveaway. :)

Oh thanks Kat! You are absolutely correct. Texas spiny lizard: S. olivaceous. BTW, love your blog!

I've never seen a Texas spiny lizard so chilled out (literally as well as figuratively). I see them mostly in the summer when they're much too lively to hold still for a photo.

And how amazing that you are wearing gloves. I always start off with gloves but can't keep them on for more than a few minutes.
