Here's proof that beautiful small native gardens can be grown on little to no soil and with natural amounts of rainfall.
In these parts, all it takes is:
- Little bluestem
- Prickly pear
- Yucca
- A small shrub or two
- A ground cover (try blue grama, moss or frogfruit)
- A small tree, even an oak will make a nice little bonsai
For inspiration, I suggest a visit any time of year to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.
What I loved about Enchanted Rock were those pockets of life. They reminded me of similar pockets I'd seen above treeline on the AT in NH and Maine.
