Retama

The retama, Parkinsonia aculeata, is one of my favorite native trees. It's beautiful and fragrant in bloom, filled with bright yellow flowers and framed by bright green leaves and stems.

Ranging naturally from Central Texas all the way to South America, this is a great drought tolerant tree that can look a bit scruffy, perhaps, but should be used more in landscapes. It is very reliable in droughts and freezes and the bees love it too.

  1. I've been wondering what these intriguing trees are. I'd love to have one. Very Dr. Suessian.
