This is the second year in a row that I've noticed these yellow spots taking over the leaves on my pretty little lacey oak,
Quercus laceyi. It seems like a fungus, but I can't find any reference to it online. All searches turn up info on the oak wilt, but this doesn't look like images of any of that. Does anyone out there have any clues?
I would email this photo to your extension agent. if they don't know they will find out. That's what they are there for and it seems they love to help us gardeners out, the same as the farmers.
ReplyDeleteGreat suggestion, Bob. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI have a suggestion as well. Besides the extension agent for your area, I would contact the Texas Forest Service. They have local branches throughout Texas and specialize in information about Texas trees. I've never seen this on an oak, so I'd be curious to know what you find out.
Ask for an Urban Forester. I do a lot of volunteer work here in Houston with the Forest Service and they are very nice people

What did you learn?
ReplyDeleteHi Lee,
ReplyDeleteDid you figure out what it was? We have the exact same thing on out Lacey Oak (we're in Brentwood in Austin). That picture you posted is just like the way our leaves look.
Thanks!
Oak Phylloxera- a tiny bug similar to aphids. I had to use a microscope to see them on the underside of the leaf. I can not find any treatment recommended on the web so I'm going with a systemic drench.
ReplyDeleteI know this is years old, but we're in (far) East Austin/Manor and have the exact same issue. Anyone know what it turned out to be?
