I made the best salsa verde I've ever tasted from them.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06829852610199852717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31716379.post-33409770250100698842012-05-23T22:08:30.722-05:002012-05-23T22:08:30.722-05:00please, please try Porter tomatoes. I grew them in Gonzales and they are an old Texas tomato.

and I'll try tomatillos....maybe next year.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31716379.post-40245949404359939002012-05-23T08:23:22.919-05:002012-05-23T08:23:22.919-05:00I love the ornament idea! So it probably wasn't the drought but the heat that caused the lack of fruit.Capybarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01246593391757793036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31716379.post-20602582729298964292012-05-22T15:02:57.262-05:002012-05-22T15:02:57.262-05:00I've never had a problem with squirrels eating...I've never had a problem with squirrels eating my tomatoes. Of course I also have dogs that like to chase squirrelsm so that might be why. I had to throw in the towel and uproot my plants last year because the drought was so severe I couldn't get any decent tomatoes even with a ridiculous amount of watering. I find the grape and cherry varieties are easiest to manage, as far as gauging the amount of water they need.

I've heard for birds you can hang red Christmas ornaments on the plants and they will try to eat them, realize they aren't food, and leave the real ones alone by the time they start growing. That probably wouldn't work for squirrels though.Jaimiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18329712467292592801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31716379.post-75515319372779308822012-05-22T07:50:44.305-05:002012-05-22T07:50:44.305-05:00I LOVE growing these.
